Advanced Practice Nursing Position Description
The human body as a whole is mind boggling to me. I find it unbelievably fascinating. Therefore it is safe to assume that I have a variety of interest. However, the field of dermatology would be my greatest interest. The requirement to gain this position is to be licensed as a registered nurse, hold a masters degree in nursing, and be nationally certified as a nurse practitioner. The next step would be getting hired by a dermatology office, where I would work in collaboration with a board-certified dermatologist. There I would receive on the job training. I would need three years of clinical experience and have a minimum of 3000 hours of work experience to be certified as a Dermatology Certified Nurse Practitioner. This credential is offered by the Dermatology Nurses Association. The certification must be renewed every three years. The client population is usually 13 years and greater with varying demographics. The practice setting is usually a outpatient office where business hours are held. Weekend and on-call duties are not required for this position. This position holds many benefits to the APN such as eight hour shifts, benefits, flexibility, and most of all, autonomy.
Professional Development Plan
As an advance practice nurse I would love to start utilizing my unique and invaluable skills and education in an adult emergency department. I believe I can get the exposure and experience I need with a variety of ages,cultures, and races. In addition to acuity levels and pathology. In the emergency department I can collaborate with different disciplinary healthcare team members, where I can increase my skills and knowledge base. After an undefined time in the emergency department, I would like to take my newly redefined skills and knowledge to a dermatology practice. In a dermatology office, I will be able to provide my unique style of care across the lifespan in this specialized patient population. The direct beneficiaries of my knowledge and abilities are my patients, coworkers, other interdisciplinary team members, and the health care system as a whole.
